Sports Science and Rehabilitation Division Conducts Sports Massage and Taping Volunteer Service at Geumam Senior Welfare Center on October 16, 2025 — Expanding Community-Based Practical Education Opportunities
Students from the Rehabilitation Division of the Department of Sports Science at Jeonbuk National University conducted sports massage and sports taping volunteer activities for seniors at the Geumam Senior Welfare Center in Jeonju on October 16, 2025. This activity is part of an ongoing community health promotion program based on a mutual cooperation agreement between Jeonbuk National University and Geumam Senior Welfare Center, and has been conducted continuously since the signing of the agreement.
During the volunteer event, Rehabilitation Division students carefully assessed the musculoskeletal condition of each senior and provided customized sports massage and taping. Treatment focused on areas frequently causing pain in daily life, such as shoulders, lower backs, and knees. Simple posture correction and stretching methods for daily use were also provided.
One participating student shared, “Being able to meet the seniors again within a short time allowed us to offer more in-depth help,” adding, “Though it was a small gesture, I'm happy if it contributed to their health.”
The Department of Sports Science stated, “Through repeated field participation, students can cultivate practical expertise within the local community,” adding, “We plan to continue not only regular volunteer work but also strive to develop region-specific health programs.”
An official from Geumam Senior Welfare Center remarked, “Meeting multiple times has increased the closeness between the seniors and students,” and conveyed, “We expect that continued meetings will positively impact not only the seniors' health but also their emotional stability.”
