Students from the Rehabilitation Division of the Department of Sports Science at Jeonbuk National University conducted volunteer activities providing sports massage and sports taping for seniors at Geumam Senior Welfare Center on October 23, 2025.
This activity is part of an ongoing community health promotion program implemented under a mutual cooperation agreement with the welfare center.
During this volunteer session, Rehabilitation Division students carefully assessed each senior's musculoskeletal condition, providing customized massage and taping for areas frequently experiencing pain in daily life, such as shoulders, lower back, and knees. They also guided seniors on simple posture correction and stretching methods for daily life to support their healthy movement.
One participating student shared, “Though it was a short time, meeting the seniors again allowed us to provide more in-depth help,” adding, “It's truly rewarding if our small efforts contributed to the seniors' daily health.”
The Department of Sports Science emphasized, “Through repeated field participation, students can develop practical expertise within the local community,” adding, “Going forward, we plan to focus our efforts not only on regular volunteering but also on developing region-specific health programs tailored to the characteristics and living environments of the elderly.”
An official from Geumam Senior Welfare Center remarked, “The repeated meetings have fostered a strong bond between the seniors and students,” adding, “We expect these ongoing interactions to positively impact not only the seniors' physical health but also their emotional well-being.”
