Department of Industrial and Information Systems Engineering
Since its establishment, the university has produced over 200,000 alumni who have contributed to the development of local communities and the nation. Committed to nurturing creative talents capable of leading the world, all members of the university work together with a shared vision and dedication.
The Department of Industrial and Information Systems Engineering was originally founded in March 1986 as the Department of Industrial Engineering, aiming to cultivate professionals capable of efficient and effective coordination and control within the diverse and complex industries of modern society. By optimally combining human and mechanical elements, the department seeks to enhance productivity and develop highly skilled personnel. In March 2003, in response to the demands of the information age, the department expanded its educational programs in the field of information systems and was renamed the Department of Industrial and Information Systems Engineering.
The department’s core educational strategy focuses on equipping students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in industrial and information systems, with the goal of advancing industrial sophistication, improving quality, and enhancing productivity. Graduates are prepared to pursue careers as engineer-managers, business leaders, or scholars.
Since 2004, the department has been selected for the NURI Project (Capacity Building for Innovative Local Universities) supported by the Ministry of Education, aimed at industry-focused, customized education and improving graduate employment rates. In 2006, the department adopted the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) system to strengthen the quality of undergraduate engineering education.
The department’s current faculty includes Professors Seong-Hoon Hong, Jang-Hyun Baek, Jun-Soo Bae, Jae-Kyung Yang, Tae-Han Lee, and Tae-Jin Kim, with Professors Dong-Won Kim and Byung-Ho Jeong serving as honorary professors.
