Chairman, Department of International Trade
Greeting from the Dean
There is no limit in our future.
We have big dreams.
In the 21st century, domestic and foreign economies are entering an era of infinite competition. Companies and state agencies that have to cope with these environmental conditions desperately need trade professionals with an international sense more than ever.
The Department of Trade aims to train students with basic knowledge to understand domestic and international economic trends, acquire applied knowledge to improve their ability to analyze various problems in international management when entering the international stage, and fully perform trade-related tasks.
Korea has an economic structure that has no choice but to rely heavily on foreign trade for continuous and stable economic growth under special conditions such as narrow national territory, lack of resources, and overcrowding. Recognizing these conditions, our university established the Department of Trade in 1962 prior to other domestic universities. In special conditions such as Korea, with more than 90% of dependence on trade, all companies are bound to be trading companies, and especially with the transformation from the GATT system to the WTO system, all areas of our lives became global and thus entered an era of trade competition. Considering the increasing frequency of trade friction along with the movement of regional economic integration, the need for trade studies is absolute.
According to this importance, the Department of Trade is intensively conducting research on international trade theory and trade policy, international commerce and international trade relations laws, and international companies. There are a total of 36 internal trade courses based on research activities in these fields, including international trade theory, international trade book, international finance theory, trade contract theory, tariff system theory, international trade law, trade insurance theory, U.S.-European and Asian region theory, international marketing, international financial theory, international economic relations theory, and trade English.
Since 2001, the Graduate School of Cyber-trade Regional Studies has been established and we recruit related students. In addition, a Center for Assisting Internet Trade (CAIT) is established in the department, and related professors provide advice on import and export work of companies in the province and consult on difficulties of companies such as creating and managing homepage.
In addition, Jeonbuk National University's Department of Trade was selected for the GTEP (Global Trade Expert Training Project) project supported by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and through this, it is contributing to the promotion of trade between local communities and Korea.
Trade graduates have a very high demand for manpower due to the special conditions and globalization of outward-oriented Korean trade pointed out earlier, and are generally advancing to high-quality professionals in a wide range of fields, including trading companies, all financial institutions, state-invested companies, and research institutes.
Jeonbuk National University's Department of Trade is a future-oriented department that fosters international management and international trade-related professionals and researchers whose demand is soaring in the era of international trade.
