JEONBUK NATIONAL UNIVERSITY
Department of Animal
Biotechnology
Leading the Advancement of Animal Resources
and Life Sciences
The 21st century is the era of biotechnology, and countries worldwide are investing heavily in national-level strategies for its development. The Department of Animal Biotechnology focuses on training competitive professionals with both theoretical knowledge and applied skills in biotechnology centered on animal resources, supported by state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities.

To enhance employability, the program emphasizes interdisciplinary education by integrating ET (Environmental Technology), NT (Nano Technology), and IT (Information Technology) into animal life science education. This approach cultivates creativity and practical skills to meet contemporary demands. Through the development of advanced biotechnological methods, automation for increased productivity, and the creation of novel functional materials, the scope of animal-related industries and academic fields continues to diversify and specialize.
The department aims to play a leading role in advancing animal resources and life sciences while nurturing highly capable professionals who contribute to human well-being. The program provides flexibility for students to pursue either foundational sciences in animal life and biomedical sciences or specialized knowledge applicable to traditional animal industries.
Research and education focus on high-value-added areas, including life sciences related to human health based on animal resources, animal material science, production of cloned and transgenic animals, and xenotransplantation technologies.
Graduates can pursue careers in a wide range of fields, including animal biotechnology-related industry research labs, national and public research institutes, graduate studies in life sciences, medical professional schools, fertility clinics, animal-derived food distribution and processing companies, animal feed companies, pharmaceutical companies, agricultural cooperatives, Korea Racing Authority, secondary school teaching, and university faculty positions.
