Major of Electronic Materials Engineering
In the midst of worldwide materials revolution, the Major of Electronic Materials Engineering plays a major role as a gateway by conducting frontier research. We do research and develop advanced materials and devices that support cutting-edge technologies for various industrial fields including - automotive, electronics, energy, and telecommunications. We also provide a well-rounded education in materials science and engineering to meet the needs of industry as well as academia. Today our department has 7 faculty members, many graduate students, and about 160 undergraduate students. All faculty and students collaborate extensively in research and education with open mind.
What do I study
In order to develop advanced materials to meet new challenges, all aspects of the properties of materials-physical, chemical, electrical, mechanical, thermal, and so on must be understood. In addition, development of the novel processing and fabrication techniques is crucial to meet the rising demands for smaller and faster devices in the electronic industry. Thus, preparation for better career in materials science and engineering requires comprehensive and interdisciplinary study. Based on physics, chemistry, mechanics, electronics, metal and ceramic materials, students can focus on one of various material applications - nano ceramics, magnetic, dielectric, and energy materials-and gain specialized knowledge in their chosen field.
What can I do afterwards
The importance of materials to modern technology continues to grow along with rapid development and growth of industry. Advances in the electronic industry, for example, are mainly the result of materials improvement. Moreover, there are still lots of materials issues to be solved in other industrial fields. Thus, materials scientists and engineers can deploy their talents among a wide range of topics through which to lead industry. As you have seen, we provide the highest quality educational and research experience for students in materials science and engineering, and so completion of the program in our department will provide a significant level of preparation for your bright career paths.
