Dept. of Housing Environmental Design

The Department of Housing Environmental Design was newly established in 2008. The program focuses on the relationship between human and environment, and it provides students with specialized knowledge to create 21C housing environment. Our program pursues space design and management of well-being through concept of future-oriented, sustainable natural and cultural environment in primary physical environment, such as a residence. Also, we lead to develop environmentally friendly materials in applying wood and building the environment with them.

First, our major search for improving the quality of space design focused on leading the development of environmentally friendly housing culture and interior, and training of professional people in the fields of living-space plan and construction and development of environmentally friendly interior materials.

Second, we train students of scientific and creative designers to contribute to keep sustainable Korean living culture throughout professional practices with respect to theory background and field experience.

Third, we provide education in developing environmentally friendly interior materials and training the students to apply them throughout the process of practical use, from drawing to building wooden environment.

-Our department is a leader in producing experts in the field of traditional Korean housing and cultural space design.

-We promote space designers who focus on practicality of life in the field of contemporary housing design.

-We focus on development of experts in the field of manufacturing and building of environmentally friendly interior materials and construction materials.

-We educate and train experts in the field of planning, construction and maintenance of wooden buildings.

After graduation, students are able to be certified to become an Interior Architectural Expert or a Wooden building engineer, and acquire a job in the fields of housing construction companies, interior design firms, furniture manufactures, wood manufactures, wood construction companies, research institutes and public corporation companies.

The department of Housing Environmental Design, newly established in 2008, is going to focus on three important plans.

1. Specialize in environmental eco-housing and wooden houses

• Open ““Wooden Architectural School””with Korea Wood Construction Association starting in 2009.
• Train experts in planning, constructing and developing materials related to wooden houses.

2. Specialize in wood manufacturing and interior design related to ship building.

• Developing co-curriculum between college department and ship building companies in Jeollabuk-Do.
• Train experts in ship building interior design.
• Train experts in wood manufacturing for ship building.

3. Specialize in manufacturing of environmentally friendly wood materials

• Developing co-curriculum between college department and industry of wood companies.
• Train experts in education of DIY practices in wood factory lab.
• Train experts in making wooden furniture.
