Agri-Struct. & Mat. Lab
About the Lab
The Agricultural Structures and Materials Laboratory at Jeonbuk National University's Department of Rural & Construction Engineering conducts diverse research with the goal of innovatively utilizing concrete and cement-based materials and enhancing the performance of agricultural and civil structures. By integrating material science with structural engineering, the laboratory strives to address the challenges faced by the future construction industry and contribute to both academic and industrial advancement. We welcome students and researchers passionate about academic challenges to join our laboratory. We offer opportunities to participate in a wide range of research projects and collaborations with domestic and international institutions and companies. Through these experiences, we aim to help students develop both practical problem-solving skills and achieve academic excellence.
Key Research Areas
Investigation of Structural Damage Mechanisms
Research on identifying physical, chemical, and thermal deterioration phenomena in concrete structures caused by aging and environmental conditions, and developing monitoring techniques for structural integrity using advanced materials engineering approaches.
Development of Low-Carbon, Eco-Friendly Construction Materials
Development of cement alternatives, non-cement binders, and CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) construction materials to address environmental challenges such as CO₂ emissions from the cement and concrete industries.
Development of Functional Construction Materials and Smart Structures
Development of functional structures capable of self-diagnosis of deformation and damage, and harvesting natural energy sources (e.g., rain, wind) by utilizing conductive concrete. Research methods include X-ray analysis, thermal analysis, microstructural characterization, and multiphysics modeling to support advanced materials and structural engineering studies.
