As the 21st Century is moving forward, the rapid increase of population and corresponding infinite competition became our new trend for survival. Although it gave us successful progress of our society, various environmental problems were inevitable. To resolve those problems, our understanding on the environmental engineering is quickly switched into the integration of high technologies based on various interdisciplinary academic knowledge and practical information.
Thus society demands environmental engineers to be equipped with not only basic scientific knowledge including mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology, but also, practical engineering principles such as advanced technologies for water & wastewater treatment, waste management, soil remediation, air pollution control, persistent-organic-pollutants (POPs) removal and so on.
'JBNU Department of Environmental Engineering (DEE)' has been focusing on above principles to cope with the nation's environmental policies and be one of the nation's best departments. The core mission of our department is to educate, inside and outside the classroom. We offer undergraduate degree programs in the broad areas of environment. Our graduate programs provide limitless possibilities at the frontier of knowledge and innovation. With the mission, JBNU DEE has pioneered professional education of bringing theoretical understanding and executive capability together. Including the unique education system, called 3+1 program (three elementary programs for theoretical education and one advanced program for practical executive education), we also intensifies the education on system design, computer application, and English simultaneously for future environmental professionals.
Our long-term objective in the area of environmental engineering is to understand and engineer human adaptation to a changing environment. Therefore, JBNU DEE want our undergraduates and graduates students empowered to understand scientific engineering and entrepreneurial thinking as a way to understand how things get done, how an idea moves forward, and how a new social service move forward from an environmental standpoint.
Especially, JBNU DEE intensifies major education according to the directions by the Accreditation Board Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) since 2013. With the accreditation, we believe that our students will be the internationally authorized engineers, critical thinkers and fast learners that can contribute to the security and sustainability of future society from environmental threats.
