Our department is
Our department was established in 1953. Since then we have provided students with a well-rounded liberal arts education as well as in-depth knowledge in the humanities and social sciences. The Department also aims to prepare students to master state-of-the-art theories and practices of political science and international relations, so as to meet the future leadership demands both for domestic and global society. In addition, the Department is well networked with some affiliated organizations, such as the Institute for Local Government and the Institute for Social Science, for students' field training.
What do I study
We have undergraduate and graduate programs designed specifically for students' needs at local, national, and international levels. The Department offers a broad range of courses in the field of political science, and in general and international politics: Political Theory & Thought, Comparative Politics, Area Studies, Public Policy, Korean Politics, International Relations, and other multidisciplinary sub-fields such as multiculturalism & East Asian studies and International Development Cooperation Studies. Recently, new approaches and methodologies have been included as a breakthrough avenue for academic development in Political Data Analysis, Urban-Local Politics, Electronic Democracy, and other emerging constructivist issues such as nationalism, ideas, interests, identities, terrorism, etc. To meet future professional demands, students are encouraged to take part in various extracurricular activities, both on and off campus, such as the Model National Assembly, the National/International Model United Nations, academic essay contests, intercollegiate panel discussions, internship and voluntary services, or learning foreign languages including Indonesian and Vietnamese.
What can I do afterwards
With high qualifications and easy adaptability, graduates with B.A.'s of Politics remain in great demand, consistently securing job placement rates on average 40 to 50% immediately after graduation. They have successful careers in government, private business, nonprofit organizations, journalism, international organizations and other foreign services. Recent emerging opportunities include political information analysis, political consultation and aides, public affairs management, and international jobs relating to international conferences and communication. Some graduates choose to continue advanced studies at the Master's and Doctorate levels, while others do related studies at foreign institutions, to be engaged in an academic profession. Also law school is regarded as a major destination of graduates from our department.
