Management regarding Research Advisor Selection and Formation of the Guidance Committee
- The head professor of a department should identify freshmen’s major fields of study and ensure that research advisors from their major fields are selected for them within a specified period. The head professor should make a list of students in master’s and doctoral programs in each semester and guide and manage them.
- A professor scheduled to retire at the regular retirement age before the freshmen’s graduation (within 2 years) cannot be selected as a research advisor or a guidance committee member, and in an unavoidable case, may be selected and managed through a meeting in the department. And a student who has completed a program may not change his/her research advisor and guidance committee members except in special cases.
- When a research advisor or a guidance committee member should be changed due to unavoidable circumstances (e.g., retirement), the student, the research advisor and the guidance committee should fully exchange opinions before asking the head professor to select a new research advisor or a new committee member. And the head professor of the department should ensure an immediate selection of a new research advisor or a new committee member.
- The head professor of a department should manage records about the selection (including any change) of students’ (including students who have completed the program) research advisors and guidance committee members, using the attached form.
