The twenty-first century is the age of Biological Sciences. It implies that biological sciences will be the most important key area of study in clarifying the various phenomena of life based on knowledge accumulated in other natural sciences such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics until now. Biological sciences have been prospered in accordance with the completion of human genome project and continues to grow as a powerful tool to enrich the quality of our lives.
To keep up with this forward-looking demand and prospect, Department of Molecular Biology established nationally competitive undergraduate and graduate programs. Seven distinguished faculty members are concentrating their efforts for supporting the education of undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the faculty members are operating nationally and internationally competitive research programs which have been supported by research funds awarded from various public and private sectors. Based on this effort, Department of Molecular Biology was authenticated as the excellent department by Korean Council for University Education in 1994. Also, Department of Molecular Biology was acknowledged for its excellence in education and research from Jeonbuk National University for two consecutive years from 2011.
What do is study
Department of Molecular Biology offers the lectures on various disciplines of modern biological sciences. Basically, molecular biology of the genes from plant, animal, and microorgansims is the main theme of the study. In addition, courses for molecular aspects of genetics, physiology, immunology, and developmental biology are offered to undergraduate and graduate students.
What can I do afterwards...
On the ground of a broad and in-depth training, the graduates have chances to build up their future in various positions. While some of the graduates continues to do research at graduate schools or research institutes in Korea and foreign countries, a sizable graduates enters into the fields such as medicine, pharmacology, agriculture, environmental science and other related areas.
