Our department, established in 1995 and the only institution in science studies with an undergraduate program in Korea, warmly welcomes those who are interested in the historical, philosophical, and social aspects of science and technology in the evolution of human society. Our department is the host of the National Science Culture Research Center(SCRC). We are very proud of our friendly atmosphere, enthusiastic students, and energetic faculty members.
What do I study
We offer Bachelor's and Master's degree programs with a strong emphasis on the broad historical, philosophical, and social studies of science and technology. For the undergraduate program, particular attention is paid to the acquisition of broad basic knowledge about persistent issues in the affairs of science, technology, and society so as to enable students to deal with such issues that have risen with the advance of science and technology. The contemporary research core of the Master's program resides in philosophical or ethical issues of biomedical science and the environment, the history of modern physics, the social studies of science in Korea, and the history of science and technology in both West and East Asia Society. If you want to study further, our Ph.D program will be a good choice. It has a wide range of subjects, for example, history/ philosophy/ sociology of science, science policy, science culture, science communication, and etc. You can take any subject among those and be a specialist in Science Studies.
What can I do afterwards
First, you may pursue higher level education in domestic or foreign programs. There are several excellent domestic graduate programs offered by Seoul National University, KAIST, Pusan National University, JungAng University etc., as well as those of our department. You can easily find hundreds of well established graduate programs in USA, Japan, and European countries. Second, you may seek immediate employment.
