The Earth Environmental System Research Center, established in 2005, aims to contribute to the most efficient national land development by carrying out basic research on the earth and environmental system and applying the research result to natural disaster prevention and restoration minimizing casualty and property damage.
The center constitutes of the Basic Research Bureau and the Applied Research Bureau. The Basic Research Bureau includes the Earth Environmental Information Branch and the Administrative & Legal Branch.
The Applied Research Bureau includes the Environmental Geological Branch, the Applied Geological Branch, the Resource & Energy Branch and the Natural Disaster Prevention Branch. The steering committee of the institute consists of less than 10 committees including Head and Bureau chairs.
Basic geological research and geological information establishment are carried out by the Environmental Information Branch, administrative and legal research and consult relating to environmental issue by Administrative & Legal Branch, research on prevention of natural disaster and environmental pollution and research on natural reservation and restoration by the Environmental Geological Branch, constructional geological project, geophysical exploration and development & preservation by the Applied Geological Branch, exploration of energy and mineral resources by the Resource & Energy Branch, and research on cause and protection of natural disaster by the Natural Disaster Prevention Branch.
