About the Department of Agricultural Biology
The Department of Agricultural Biology was founded in 1982 as a part of College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at Chonbuk National University with a common goal of improving Agriculture through the Crop Protection.
Since we know that Tomorrow's discoveries will be made by today's students, the department provides students with the highest quality education and training possible. An essential ingredient in our educational philosophy is to provide students with broad exposure to concepts, to encourage creativity, and to insist upon critical thinking and analysis.
Department offers a broad range of both basic and applied courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels leading to a degree in Agriculture with specialization in Crop Protection divided into 2 categories. First, Plant Pathology part covers Plant Bacteriology, Plant Mycology, Plant Virology, Disease Management, and others related. Second, Entomology part deals with Insect Ecology, Agricultural Entomology, Integrated Pest Management, Insect Physiology, Biological Control, and so on.
Plant Pathology and Entomology, and the application of Plant Pathology and Entomology, providing a sound background for students considering careers in Entomology, Plant Pathology, and related areas. Our excellence and commitment to teaching with lab experiments and research will provide student with a stimulating learning environment and prepare you for a career in academia, industry, and/or government service. Many students get a job in government National institutions such as Rural Development Administration, Agricultural Techniques Extension Center, or Plant Quarantine Service, in public companies including Agricultural Cooperative Federation (Nonghyup), and in private companies such as Pesticide Companies, Seedling Companies, Pharmaceutical Companies, or Quarantine Company as researchers and/or administrates. Students can get Plant Protection Certificate (First class) essential to become “Plant Doctor” and great helpful to get a job related to majors.
The Department of Agricultural Biology offers graduate programs in both Entomology and Plant Pathology for both MS and PhD degrees.
