Dept. of Quantum System Eng.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantum System Engineering .
- Master Degree & Ph. D in Applied Plasma Engineering.
Introduction
Our department deals with quantum system engineering based on plasma technologies, which was found in 2014 with 15 students. The students begin with the fundamental courses in multidisciplinary engineering and science fields and then deepen plasma-based quantum systems such as nuclear fusion engineering, plasma processing for semiconductor and display fabrication, accelerator system and radiologic system. Out department is strongly related to High Enthalpy Plasma Research Center established as 5th research center in the world, which is pursuing extreme environmental plasma system and facilities. The final goal of the department is to develop human resources who can play an important role in Korean plasma-based industries and research institutes.
What we study
The undergraduate students begin with the mathematics and physics, fundamental electro-magnetism and measurement technology. After that, the undergraduate students study about basic quantum system engineering such as nuclear fusion, nuclear fission, accelerator, beam generation, and plasma processing system. Graduate students study plasma applications such nuclear fusion, semiconductor/display/device fabrication, beam generation, high enthalpy plasma sources. Also computer-based plasma fluid analysis and plasma diagnostics are included in the curriculum.
Vision
Our vision is educating and training basic and special human resources related to plasma-based quantum system engineering. The graduates may work in research institutes such as National Fusion Research Institute, Agency for Defense Development, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and also in chip making industries such as Samsung Electronics, LG Display, SK Hynix, and in plasma equipment industries such as LAM, Applied Material, Tokyo Electron, Jusung, SEMES etc. In addition, based on the acquired excellent transferable engineering knowledge, the graduates may work in governmental organizations dealing with nuclear fusion and fission such as MICT, MOTIE and NRF.
