Libraries
The University has a very resourceful library system, which is one of major academic research libraries in Korea. It was founded in 1955 as the Central Library of Chonbuk National University. The library system consists of the Central Library, the Medical School Library and the Law School Library. The Central Library is a complex of three four-story buildings, holding 850,000 books, 8,700 printed and electronic journals, 142,000 academic dissertations, 5,700 non-book materials (CD-ROM, video tapes, cassette tapes, DVDs, etc.), and 3,552 reading tables.
A multimedia service room provides students with a VOD system, satellite broadcasting, an LD system, a DVD system and an A/V system. The library reading rooms are housed in a five-story building providing 1,900 tables for students. The Medical School Library has a floor space of 2,058 square meters and includes 660 reading tables. It is for the faculty and students of the Medical and Dental schools. The Law School Library has a floor space of 400 square meters and provides 86 reading tables. Most of the library book stacks are open to all users. Materials which we do not hold may be obtained through the interlibrary loan (ILL) service. The Library also provides an on-line information data service and electronic journals (4,136 foreign journals). More than 5,000 students and faculty members are served and nearly 2,000 items of library materials are circulated daily. The University Library is open to all members of the University and the local community through membership. The service hours of each library differs, but reading rooms are opened from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. every day of the week, including Sunday.
To provide better services for all the members of the university and the local community, CBNU is developing a digital library.
